耶穌降生日期

1. 聖經沒有記下耶穌的誕生日子。

2. 猶太歷史家 Joseph Matthias (ca. 37 BC - 100 AD) & 羅馬歷史學家 Cornelius Tacitus (ca.56 BC - 118 AD) 也沒有記下耶穌的誕生日子。

3. 公元紀元 Anno Domino (BC, AD, now BCE, CE) 的始用，是 525 AD 才開始的。

4. 一般認為 Scythian 地方的一位教士 Dionysius Exiguus, 提議使用 "耶穌紀元"。

• Dionysius在仔細閱讀當時官方和教會收藏的文獻後，認為耶穌應該生於羅馬紀元754年。並按當時天主教的規定，認定耶穌誕生在12月25日。他以六天之後的元旦作為耶穌紀年的起始點。即公元一年。按照Dionysius推算，當時已經是公元525年了。這也是公元記年法開始使用的時間。
  
• 由於西方早期的紀年相當混亂，Dionysius在推算上也可能有失誤...但是無論如何，公元紀元還是525年開始,漸漸被廣泛使用。

5. 12月25日慶祝聖誕不是從早期教會開始的。

• 三世紀以後，有人提出以12月25日為「聖誕日」，當時教會並沒有接納這一天為宗教節慶。因為100-300 AD 期間, 不少人反對慶祝聖誕節。
  
• 274 AD，羅馬皇帝Aurelian 下令以12月25日為「不敗之太陽神誕辰節」(Sol invictus)，命令全國統一慶祝。
  
• 基督徒不能對抗羅馬皇帝的命令，當時的教會就把這一日訂為聖誕節。並強調耶穌才是真正的「不敗的太陽」。

6. 四世紀，羅馬西方教會推出12月25日為耶穌誕生日；而羅馬東方教會提出1月6日為耶穌誕生日。
